TAKS

Next week is our TAKS test. Really nervous. I feel like lets do it now. But I think after get the question paper my mind will be totally blank. I am feeling like I don’t know any of these. Especially on science. I am afraid of it. I already forget everything what I studied biology in 9th grade. I don’t know what to do. Ms. Steal is saying we will pass for sure but the thing is we have to get commended on it. It’s not that easy. I am just hoping to pass on science. Ms. Steal is really trying hard to us get commended. If I failed she will be so shocked. My friends are afraid too. They are also thinking they are not going to pass. I hope everybody pass and get commended on every single subject. I have been going to math tutoring. Last time I missed my bus then I walked all the way to school. It was so frustrating. This time is the last day for tutoring. But I am confused where I should go on math or on science. Teachers are also nervous with us about TAKS. They are our well wishers. We should try our level best. I will try my best to do well. All the best to everyone.

Nabobarsho (Bengali new year)

Tomorrow is our Bengali new year! Shuvo Nabobarsho (Happy New Year) to everyone. This is the only day where every kind of people celebrates it happily. Every poor, rich, young, old, we all celebrate it together and eat the same food. Food is the most interesting part in this occasion. We eat rice with cold water and eat fried fish. As far as I know, there is a reason behind this food. This food is actually for who have little money to buy their food so that they buy only rice and fish which is cheap. They earn little money and buy rice and small fish. They don’t even have money to buy other grocery and cook some curry. That’s why they only eat rice and fish over and over. Therefore in this day we all eat it to understand their sorrow how they suffer these days by having only rice and one piece of fish. Sometimes they don’t even get a piece of fish to eat, they only eat rice. That is really terrible. But that’s the way it goes. So eat food then we wear white and red dress. This the traditional dress in this day that we have to wear white and red dress. After get ready we go outside and enjoy this time with everyone.
I am really missing this. I wish I were in my country and enjoy it with my close people. But still I will eat rice and fish with my family and going to wear white and red dress.

healthy living!

In our current situation medication is getting really expensive. Health expenditures in the United States neared $2.6 trillion in 2010, over ten times the $256 billion spent in 1980. We can decrease the amount of cost just by eating healthy food. Who does want to have a box of medication on the age of 20 or 30! But now a day we see a lot of people has high blood pressure, obesity and some other problem in young generation. Scientists and doctor says it’s because of eating large amount of fast food. Well plant based diet can give you a healthy life, can make you cost less and you will feel energetic more than ever. That’s why I choose to have plant based diet. A healthy plant based diet is the key to success and healthy lifestyle which will shut the door of useless cost loaded with more benefits. It will cost you less. Less means a lot less. You may say organic food costs much but at the end it will save you from doctor fee, medication or any surgery. Statistics says fast food causes heart disease, high blood pressure and some other chronic disease. There is a slogan eat more fiber food and live long. Animal based food will block your blood vessel and create heart disease. This might get into stroke and some serious condition. To prevent those best way is to having a plant based diet.  We should strat eating healthy food for our goods. And make sure we do some exercise to fit our body perfect.

our surrounding !

Surroundings affect life by telling you what you should be. Our surroundings are part of our culture. In another country, the people have customs are different than those of Americans, and we think that they strange. The truth, however, is that we seem stranger to them. All around us are things and people telling us what to become, influencing our everyday lives. In addition our Bengali culture seems strange to many American. Our dresses, foods, different language etc. sometimes they found it as an interesting.  They are being curious to know about our culture. If somehow they like it, then they want to be part of our culture by wearing cloths like us and eat the same spicy food. Especially people like our henna stuff because it’s kind of like a tattoo. But they don’t what’s the meaning behind it. People part of our surroundings. What fashion statements are going on? What are the celebrities wearing? Whether we know it or not. We all want to be just like the other people. Our culture wants us to fit in, to become part of the surrounding. We let friends fashion, and fame control who we are, and who we are becoming. But these are what surround us! As humans, it is impossible for us to know anything other than what can be seen or heard. We see and hear everything in our surroundings every day. Our surroundings tell us who we should be, and so we become just that, and so does everyone else. In the end, we all become exactly what society wants us to be. We become our surroundings.

helping your teenagers to be successful

When teenagers rebel to their parents, it may be frustrating to parents and other caring adults to find ways to talk to and support teenagers through this hard time. Any parent or person who works with teenagers knows that adolescence can be a tough time. Adults can sometimes feel like adolescents are always facing a crisis or are worried about school, self-esteem and their future; however there are some guidelines that can help the teenagers. One is external assets. There are some support, empowerment, boundaries and constructive use of assets. Parents should make them feel that they are doing good, if they do some wrong stuff, they need to tell them calmly instead of shouting on them. And make their confidence level high.  Another is internal assets. There are commitment to leading positive values and social competencies. It is important for parents to inspire their children with a sense of purpose in life. Without purpose most teenagers tend to drift along, not knowing the direction they wish to take. Teenagers have clear idea of where their interests. They just need support to do that. There is the most supporting role is their parents. Also their friends can support them. Sometimes some friends are destructed but other hand they are helpful.

Teenagers : why do they rebel ?

Teenagers can push the patience but unfortunately some kids go as far as blatantly floating rules on breaking the low, often with tragic results what’s with this rebellious streak. During the teenage years, the area of the brain call end the prefrontal context is developing. At this time teenagers brains are developing and their minds are changing. Their minds are changing their thinking cap, judgment center, Elkin explains is change. They develop their own ideas. Another thing is going social. Whether wild clothes and make up use to be alright of passage into adolescence. That’s not true today, says Elkin at this time teenagers experiment alcohol or drugs. They try to experiment everything. In this time they fall in love then they do sex. They can’t control their emotion in this time. That’s the reason teenagers got pregnant so easily. If you go to high school you can see many girls are pregnant or with their child. They also do the body pierce in many part of their body. They do the tattoo stuff which makes them different from others. The fact that all teenagers aren’t as wild as some people imagine doesn’t necessarily help create peace in home. Even the most balanced teenagers are arguing and challenging their parents, sometimes on a daily basis. Teenagers build up resentment. They lack their parents love and anger builds up.  These kinds of things make teenagers rebel. In this time they thing they grown up, now they can do their own stuff. They know what is good for them. That’s the reason teenagers rebel.

addictions problems

Addictions problems are a big problem in the USA. People are addicted to drugs and alcohol. Especially the teenagers are more into drugs. First they try for fun with their friends. After that they get addicted to it. For this problem many parents in USA use Ritalin to help their ADHD divesting children in the school. There are many possible consequences to happen to Ritalin. Firstly paranoid delusions, it means he or she is always panic about the police. They feel like police is going to arrest them or police is going to take their stuff from them. Secondly physic dependence. It means he or she wasn’t something that they need it now. They are being stubborn. If they don’t get it they star behaving live a crazy, yelling at everyone. Sometimes they try to hurt people. But they don’t do it on purpose because their minds were blank for the drug. Thirdly extreme withdrawal, it means he is she is not social. They don’t like to talk to other peoples. They don’t communicate people. They don’t even like to stay home rather than in the street. They like to live their own. They feel that nobody can understand them. They can live as how they want. These kinds of things take them far away from their parents, home and society. They start living in their own world where only drugs have. These problem causes, using prescription drugs like Ritalin’s ADHD can be devastating and destructive for our young adults and children. The possible effects are death, not eating and insomnia.

fuchka !

If you ask any typical Bangladeshi what is his/her favorite food, I bet they must include Fuchka. Now you might think its a fancy traditional food. No, It's not! It's a street food. You will see a lot of people with a small mini van sell Fuchka. It's really cheap. And girls die for eating Fuchka! We see Fuchkawala (who sells fuchka ) everywhere but specially in front of school/college/university, park, market, shopping mall, stadium, carnival. There is also some restaurant now a days offer Fuchka! But nothing is better than street Fuchka! Teacher, parents used to teach us not to eat street food, they are unhealthy! but you will get addicted to it. Indians call it Panipuri. So now I think, I should say something more about Fuchka Fuchka is a mix of potatoes, chola (chickpeas) boiled in spices, tomatoes, onions, coriander, green chilies topped off with a sweet and sour tangy tamarind juice or sauce. The mixture is same As Chotpoti. But to eat Fuchka you can eat the whole fuchka with one bite, but to eat chotpoti you have to use spoon, people use salad and boiled crumble egg on top of it and use chaat masala. It's really delicious! If you want to try it then a little advice, you might get addicted to this! and if you don't like spicy tell the fuchkawala! Cause it might be superrrrr hot!! I see girls eating fuchka! And that is so spicy that their eyes burn! But they Can’t stop eating that! Statistic says Girls love fuchka more than boys.

History class!

My least favorite subject is US history.  This is the one and only class where I fell asleep. Well sometimes it’s interesting to know all about the new historic thing but trust me sometimes it’s just killing me. In every single day we take test. Why in every day? It’s too much. Seriously I don’t want this class anymore. It’s not a fun class. Especially when I see someone else know better than me. I don’t even know what they are saying. There have a lot of readings which nobody likes. But we have to do that and after that we have to take test even though you don’t get it. But anyway in this sixth week I am missing a lot of test. Somehow I got 65 which is really pathetic. I need redo my test. Tomorrow we have oral test. I don’t know what’s going to happen to me tomorrow. But I hope it will be all ok.
Another thing I don’t like to play games in my history class. There have some stupid educational history games which doesn’t make sense to me. last time we got some paper if you have a dot in your paper then you cant tell anybody and you have to convince people to take you in their group. Those people were the group leader who had the dot. Nobody convinced each other. Everybody was like let’s finished the game somehow. We don’t care we win or not.
One last thing I got to learn many new things which I appreciate.

wrong day !

I don’t know why people celebrate Valentine’s Day.  Maybe for chocolate or gifts. It sounds kind of mean or funny but its true though. Well I have some prove for that. A few days ago my friend named Seng, she broke up with her boyfriend. But suddenly she realized Valentine’s Day is coming soon. Now she wants to go back with him even though her boyfriend hit her once. But whatever right! Last Valentine’s Day she got four teddy, five chocolate box and seventeen flowers from her boyfriend. This time she also wants those. She will never let someone to have those. For that reason she went to Luis to make up their relation. Luis is a tough boy. But at the end she managed him. Now they celebrate Valentine’s Day happily and got a lot of gifts as she wanted. In another side, I was seeing everybody is walking around with teddy and flowers. They were just showing off that they got something in this day. One of my friends was so upset because she didn’t get anything. That’s why she made up a plan, next time she will but some flowers and teddy by herself and walk around everywhere. That’s funny! But she was so serious. I said “sure”. At least people should do whatever they feel like to do. And specially its make her relief she should do that.
Maybe I am wrong about Valentine’s Day but I don’t feel anything special. It’s not a special day. If it’s only for gifts and chocolate then defiantly it’s a wrong day called love day. tt should be called a present’s day but not a love day.

Kate Chopin’s “The story of an hour” is the story of Louise Mallard, a weak, repressed housewife who is liberated in learning of her husband’s death in a train accident. Louise begins sobbing when Josephine tells her of Brantley’s death and goes upstairs to be alone in her room. Louise sits down and looks out an open window. She sees trees, smells approaching rain, and hears a peddler yelling out what he’s selling. She feels apprehensive and tries to suppress the building emotions within her, but can’t. She begins repeating the word free! to herself over and over again. Her heart beats quickly, and she feels very warm. Louise knows she’ll cry again when she sees Brently’s corpse. His hands were tender, and he always looked at her lovingly. But then she imagines the years ahead, which belong only to her now, and spreads her arms out joyfully with anticipation. Louise knows that she often felt love for Brently but tells herself that none of that matters anymore. Josephine comes to her door, begging Louise to come out, warning her that she’ll get sick if she doesn’t. Louise tells her to go away. She fantasizes about all the days and years ahead and hopes that she lives a long life. Then she opens the door, and she and Josephine start walking down the stairs, where Richards is waiting. The front door unexpectedly opens, and Brently comes in. he hadn’t been in the train accident or even aware that one had happened. Josephine screams, and Richards tries unsuccessfully to block Louise from seeing him. Doctors arrive and pronounce that Louise died of a heart attack brought on by happiness. Chopin reveals in her story that only through assertion of the true self can one find life worth living, and that death of the true self can bring death of the physical self.

Support The DREAM Act

The DREAM Act can help millions of illegal immigrants obtain legal status in the U.S., which can help the economy through the increased levels of taxable income. There are many people in the U.S. who are not attending college or getting any job. That is a problem of society and also an economic problem. Instead of this, the dreamer can help the society with new citizens who are smart, intelligent and have the confidence to study a lot. Once an illegal immigrant has applied for residency under the DREAM Act, he cannot be deported until his application has been resolved. But still he doesn’t have legal status. These undocumented immigrants are facing a lot of difficulties. Many U.S. students feel that it is unfair to give immigrant people the opportunity to go to college by removing some U.S. students.
Some people think if the DREAM Act bill passed it would be easier for people to come over to the U.S. with their children illegally.  They consider these people “Illegal immigrants,” because after all, it’s illegal. They don’t support the DREAM Act as fair. Their opinion is, no matter how they arrive here, still they are illegal. Another thing they are thinking: illegal people are getting the biggest rewards through the DREAM Act, who knowingly broke the law. Is that affects on U.S citizens that they are not getting this kind of chance that the illegal aliens are being given.
I think people are just mad to see the people who come to this country do much better in it than the people who were born here. Have we all forgotten that this country was founded by immigrants? In the progressive era, the immigrants have the main role for this development. I support the DREAM Act all the way. Give the people who come to this country what they are looking for in it.

Sometimes sudden things can change our life or an unknown person can change our life. In every step we need someone who we can trust and who can take care. I remember when we were in a bad time my uncle who helped us. It turned our life and it helps us to live a life with my family.
My father died when I was little. He had a brain cancer. I didn’t see him that much. My mom used to tell me that my father loved me a lot. He was really happy when I born. My mother tells me, when my father was ill we had a pretty harsh time.  Everyone knew that my father is going to die very soon. That time my uncle and my aunt, they were trying to separate us. They were saying that one of my aunt going to take me and my uncle going to take my brother with them. But they didn’t think about my mom, how she will be ok without us. They just thought after my father die my mom will get married. But my mom didn’t think about it at all. She was thinking that somehow her husband get cured and be with us again. But it didn’t happen.  After few days I woke up in the morning and I saw everybody was crying. Then I started crying too because my mom was crying. Then at night everybody was saying about us. They are going to separate us right now.  Suddenly the environment became so noisy. My mom got scared and she realized that they actually meant to separate us. Then that time my uncle shouted nobody can touch them. They will live with us. Nobody can separate them. You guys didn’t even think how they will survive without each other. It’s a family. It’s not easy to say to separate them. Then my uncle took us with them. We started live with his family. My uncle was my father’s sister s husband. We are thankful to him. And I love him more than my father. Because of him we are still together. He changed our life.
In that time if my uncle weren’t support us; I maybe not live with my mom and brother today. I maybe not see them today. I would be somewhere else apart from my family. My uncle was the only one who thought that. He is admirable person for me. I respect him and I pray for his long life.

Remove racism from our country !

When we hear about racism, many people think, if they have different appearance then they should stay from them. They don’t want to talk to them because they are not look like them. Especially in 16’s century racism was between white and black people. White people thought they are black people so their morals and values are low. The period of 1870-1960 the ‘Jim Crow” laws when millions of African Americans were brutalized. Many of them were killed and frightened for voting and trying to get an education. They had two different restaurants. One is for whites and one is for blacks. There was the concept of lynching, where the whites openly killed blacks. Then many of the African Americans took the migratory step of moving to other parts of the U.S. to search for a better and a peaceful lifestyle. But in the end, many African Americans fought for the U.S. in World War 1 and World War 2.
Perhaps the greatest achievement in the history of African American stands for justice was when Barack Obama was selected to be the first black presidential nominee. He went on to become the first African American man to win the most respected position in the world. Barak Obama is now the 44th president of the U.S., the national that always neglected and demeaned many Africans Americans.
Racism was not only between blacks and whites. It was also in many different countries.  Some countries were also against the Asians. I noticed everywhere people make fun of Asians. Especially it happens in school. When people see some different colors and appearances from themselves, then they treated those who were different in a different way. Sometimes they used name calling.  I have a friend who is from Cambodia. But he has small eyes. So in school every single person calls him “China,” which he doesn’t like. I have also seen when I go in a store or mall people looked at me like I am from a different planet. Sometimes they also misbehaved. When that happens, I feel like they have done this because I am from another country.

winter break!?!

Finally we have gotten a long vacation. We all were waiting for a winter break. But these 15days passed so fast. I am not satisfied though. I want more vacation. But this vacation wasn’t that bad. I did a lot of important stuff. First thing that I have done that is I slept a lot. This is my favorite thing to do in holidays. But anyway it was Christmas and New Year time so that was the best time to do some shopping. I went to shopping with my and then again I with my cousins. We tried some new foods which was good. We took some pictures. People love to take picture so do we! I also tried to find a job. Then finally I got a job.
I think this winter break was the best vacation I have ever got. I have enjoyed a lot. I got a lot of things that I didn’t expect. I got a job and my mom is very happy for that. And I am also happy. In my vacation I didn’t do anything exciting. One thing was exciting that my mom and I cooked a new recipe that was really delicious. We didn’t thing it will be so good. I know it’s not that exciting but I don’t have anything else to share. But thing is I love this winter vacation. I wish I could get 2 more days off.
